Tertiary Access Courses

Tertiary Access Course 1

This is a general education course offered for the duration of one academic year and is available to candidates who are yet to settle on their final choice of degree or who require an intensive preparation program. Fundamental orientations in areas such as mathematics, science, academic and literacy skills and Indigenous studies are included.

Campus socialisation and personal empowerment, as well as strategies to manage independent study and accountability as members of the student body are also important issues for student success and are included in the course.

Tertiary Access Course 1 is conducted at the Yarrabah campus and at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. The course commences each year in the last week of February. Applicants to this course participate in the internal selection program which includes a series of diagnostic assessments and an interview. Interviews and evaluations are conducted in Townsville and Cairns and at Yarrabah and Lotus Glen.

Tertiary Access Course 2

This course of one academic year prepares students for entry into an undergraduate course in a specific field of study. Students may choose from the following options:

Humanities Tertiary Access Course (HuTAC). This prepares students for entry into Humanities and related fields.

Humanities Tertiary Access Course (HuTAC) by distance mode, which allows students access to courses if they are not located near one of the campuses.

Science Tertiary Access Course (SciTAC). This prepares students for entry into Health Sciences including Medicine and Nursing; Science including Marine Biology and Biomedical Sciences; and Engineering. This course is available only at the Townsville campus.

Tertiary Access Course 2 is conducted at Yarrabah, the Cairns and Townsville campuses and Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. Applicants to the course undergo a series of diagnostic assessments and an interview, which may be conducted at any of the previously mentioned locations.
