Introduction to Chemistry 2

General introduction to the major elements of chemistry, including some indigenous perspectives. Major topics: phase changes; kinetics; colloids; organic chemistry – introduction; organic chemistry – physical properties and functional groups; isomers of organic compounds; introduction to coordination compounds; IUPAC conventions; coordination isomers; electrochemical cells; metallurgy.
Learning Objectives:
- to extend basic concepts of chemistry in preparation for studies at a tertiary level.
Assessment by attendance and participation (15%); tutorials (20%); laboratory classes (15%); one two-hour examination (50%).
