Introductory Mathematics 1

Available to Tertiary Access Course students.
The content included in this subject focuses on the core skills of mathematics which may be applicable across a wide range of areas of mathematical study and general life skills. The practical application of these skills will be emphasised wherever appropriate.
Major topics include number study; operations with cardinal numbers; fractions and decimals; personal finances; information tables; graphing skills.
Learning Objectives:
- an understanding of the foundation skills as these are applied especially to areas of the Australian currency system and personal finance;
- a development of confidence and competence in reading, writing and speaking the language of mathematics at both the academic and personal levels.
Assessment by one project (30%); mid-semester test (30%); end of semester test (30%); attendance and participation (10%).
