Japanese 4: Advanced

Prerequisites: JA3112 or JA3122

A number of intensive workshops and consultation sessions during the semester. No regular weekly classes. First semester.

A wide range of authentic material is used in this subject such as Japanese TV dramas and documentaries, fictional and non-fictional prose, etc. Tasks include summarising and discussing the content of Japanese TV programs and various readings, both in speech and in writing. Students will be expected to be familiar with 800 of the most frequently used Kanji characters on completion of this subject.

Learning Objectives:

  1. increase students’ proficiency beyond the level achieved in the prerequisite advanced level subjects. Students will be progressing through Level 2+; on the Australian Second Language Proficiency Scale, with the aim of achieving Level 3 on completion of JA3212 in second semester.

Assessment by oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
