Japanese 4: Advanced

Prerequisites: JA3211 or JA3221

A number of intensive workshops and consultation sessions during the semester. No regular weekly classes. Second semester.

A wide range of authentic material is used in this subject such as Japanese TV dramas and documentaries, fictional and non-fictional prose, etc. Tasks include summarising and discussing the content of Japanese TV programs and various readings, both in speech and in writing. Students will be expected to be familiar with 1,000 of the most frequently used Kanji characters on completion of this subject.

Learning Objectives:

  1. increase students’ proficiency beyond the level achieved in the prerequisite advanced level subjects. Students will be expected to have achieved Level 3 on the Australian Second Language Proficiency Scale on completion of this subject.

Assessment by oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
