Bachelor of Social Science in Environmental Studies
Townsville; Cairns
The objectives of this course are two-fold:
- to train environmental professionals with a strong background in: (a) interdisciplinary environmental studies and (b) at least one cognate discipline in the social sciences;
- to provide students with experience relevant to their future employment through (a) team and individual project work in environmental studies and (b) an optional vacation placement.
Students must complete
- all the subjects listed in the core sequence in Environmental Studies (the fourth year project can be taken at honours level only);
- at least one other three-year sequence of subjects in a supporting discipline or field of study (normally 8 units at level 2 and 8 units at level 3);
- an optional vacation placement may be available between years 3 and 4;
- other subjects chosen from the listed sequences in other supporting disciplines or fields of study and/or from the Master Schedule of Subjects. Timetabling clashes may limit some combinations.
A total of at least 54 units must be taken from Table Ia of the Master Schedule of Subjects, with a minimum of 27 from Table 1a, and all other requirements of the BSocSc (Environmental Studies) must be met.
The following core subjects must be completed along with selected subjects from one of the chosen supporting disciplines/fields of study listed below. Students should consult with the relevant Heads of Schools in selecting these subjects.
