Applied Ecology and Conservation Honours Project

Prerequisites: BS2001 or BZ2400 and at least credit average in required level 3 BT BZ and/or ZL subjects
Inadmissable Subject Combination: BT4000 BZ4000 ZL4000

Full year.

Available to level 4 Honours students in BAppSc (Applied Ecology and Conservation).

Independent supervised applied research project associated with a relevant program in the University, other research organisation, government department of industry. Comprises: development of research proposal and presentation in a seminar; literature review; research project (design, field and/or laboratory data collection, analysis, write up); presentation of project in a research seminar and in a thesis.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understanding of research procedures from development of relevant questions through design and completion of the research to writing up of a final report;
  2. development of a high level of skill in analysis of and interpretation of results and in written and verbal communication of results;
  3. understanding of the importance of research and its application;
  4. capacity to use these skills in the development and execution of new research projects in an applied context.

Assessment by proposal and seminar (5%); literature review (15%); thesis (70%); final seminar (10%).
