Integrated Nursing A

25 lectures, 20 tutorials, 30 hours of nursing science laboratories, 160 hours clinical placement. First semester.
Available only to level 3 nursing science students.
This subject is designed to allow nursing students to explore specialty areas of nursing. The two specialty areas include mental health nursing and family health. Students are expected to develop their assessment and planning skills and learn new techniques to implement nursing care for patients. Clinical experience occurs in more specialist contexts in both acute and community settings.
Learning Objectives:
- develop skills of nursing assessment, planning and implementation for clients who have alterations in health status;
- develop increasingly specific communication skills to enable therapeutic interactions with clients;
- demonstrate clinical skills and techniques for caring for patients within the speciality nursing areas;
- integrate principles of management and time management strategies into clinical situations.
On-course assessment (40%); examination (60%).
