Transitions into Nursing A

Townsville

Prerequisites: NS1212 SC1012

30 lectures, 10 tutorials, 30 hours nursing science laboratories, 30 hours self directed study, 120 hours clinical placement. First semester.

Available only to level 2 nursing science students.

This subject will expose the student to a variety of assessment tools to examine both the mental and physical alterations in health status. The exercising of clinical judgement in determining appropriate nursing responses to these alterations in health status will be developed. The emphases of this subject are on assessment, beginning management and the interactive processes between the nurse and client. This subject includes clinical placement.

Learning Objectives:

  1. refine skills in assessing patients’ health status;
  2. use more advanced observational and data collection techniques;
  3. develop nursing care for clients with an altered health status;
  4. recognise and develop skills necessary for a collaborative practice.

Assessment by ongoing course assessment (40%); examination (60%); written documentation of competencies in clinical setting (satisfactory level required).
