Feature Writing

13 lectures, 20 hours workshops. Second semester.

Students will learn reporting and writing principles that will enable them to prepare a range of feature articles suitable for publication. This subject examines the distinction between feature writing and news writing. It emphasises the importance of facts, quotes and anecdotes in the creation of entertaining and informative feature pieces and shows students how features function as effective vehicles for putting news and news makers into wider social perspectives.

  1. to learn reporting and writing principles that will enable students to prepare a range of feature articles suitable for publication.

Assessment by participation in workshops; regular written assignments; major end-of-semester feature story.
