Japanese 1A: Beginners

Prerequisites: JA1011 or JA1001

A number of intensive workshops and consultation sessions during the semester. No regular weekly classes. Second semester.

This subject continues building elementary level communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Topics include ordering meals and drinks, discussing locations, talking about one’s daily routine, expressing requests, offering assistance and extending invitations.

Studying for this subject combines individual study and attending consultation sessions and intensive workshops. Students will complete listening, reading and writing tasks with the help of teaching material designed for individual study. Assistance with this aspect of studies is available at consultation sessions and through telephone and e-mail contact with teaching staff. Weekend workshops are dedicated to intensive conversation practice and role plays.

Assessment by oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
