Japanese 1A: Beginners

This subject provides an introduction to the Japanese phonetic writing systems, Hiragana, as well as the fundamentals of Kanji, the written characters, of which ca. 40 are introduced.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to acquire fundamental skills in speaking, reading and writing modern Japanese;
  2. ability to introduce self and others, handle basic numbers, to become familiar with common greetings as well as the most basic grammatical patterns.

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests and end of semester examinations.
