Archaeology Honours

Prerequisites: BSc in Archaeology or related discipline with 16 units of level 3 AR subjects at Credit or higher
Inadmissable Subject Combination: AR4001 AR4002 AR4003 AY4000

60 hours seminars, independent research project. Full year.

Available to level 4 Honours students.

The subject examines advanced archaeological theory and method. It includes a program of specialised reading and study, as well as supervised research work on an approved archaeological topic.

Learning Objectives:

  1. become conversant with advanced archaeological theory and method;
  2. become conversant with archaeology’s links with other sciences, social sciences and humanities;
  3. design and carry out a research project;
  4. complete and write-up the research project as a thesis;
  5. learn to work independently as an archaeologist.

Assessment by two research essays (20%); two seminars (20%); an honours thesis (60%).
