Combined Honours (Archaeology)

Prerequisites: BA or BSocSc in Archaeology with 12 units of level 3 AR subjects at Credit or higher
Inadmissable Subject Combination: AR4001 AR4101 AY4000

40 hours seminars; independent research project. Full year.

This is the appropriate level 4 Honours subject for courses which combine Archaeology with other disciplines in the Faculty of Arts. It examines advanced archaeological theory and method and it includes a program of specialised reading and study, as well as supervised research work on an approved archaeological and interdisciplinary topic, agreed with the other discipline and/or department.

Learning Objectives:

  1. become conversant with advanced archaeological theory and method;
  2. become conversant with archaeology’s links with other sciences, social sciences and humanities;
  3. design and carry out a research project;
  4. complete and write up the research project as a thesis;
  5. learn to work independently as a cross-disciplinary archaeologist.

Assessment by research essays (20%); seminars (20%); Honours thesis (60%).
