BACHELOR DEGREES IN LAW
1. In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards of the faculty must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Handbook.
2. In exceptional circumstances and notwithstanding anything contained in the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards and the Degree or Diploma Award Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or amend any conditions of or prescription of these Requirements.
3. Subjects available to candidates are listed in the Master Schedule of Subjects as subjects with a prefix of LA.
4.1 Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain advanced standing for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.
4.2 Unless the faculty otherwise determines, advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 11 (eleven) years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN BUSINESS, COMMERCE, ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM
1. APPLICATION OF THE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this handbook.
2. In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, with the approval of the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements or prescription of the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and Degree, Diploma or Certificate Award Requirements.
3. ENROLMENT IN AWARDS
A person who holds an Award listed in General Requirement 1.1 may not be a candidate for that Award in the same discipline.
4. CREDIT
Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain advanced standing for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.
5. Subjects available to candidates are listed in the Master Schedule of Subjects as subjects with a prefix of BU, CO, EC, MG or TO.
6. In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor with the approval of the relevant Head of the School may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated credit points of study for an Award offered in the faculty.
HONOURS DEGREES IN BUSINESS AND COMMERCE
(Discipline areas: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tourism, Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management)
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for a degree with Honours shall, in the case of Commerce or Business:
-
complete the requirements of the pass degree, or an equivalent degree from another university;
-
include in the degree course the appropriate pass degree subjects, as set out in the program of study for each specific pass degree and described in the Master Schedule of Subjects as subjects with a prefix of BU, CO, EC, MG or TO, or equivalent subjects from another university;
-
include in the degree course honours subjects specified in the specific Honours programs.
2.1 ENROLMENT
An application by a student to enrol for an Honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an Honours degree unless a minimum average grade of Credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which Honours is to be taken.
2.2 In the case of Honours programs in Commerce or Business a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree within the faculty may apply to enrol for an Honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an Honours degree is sought. Such a candidate shall comply with the requirements of the pass degree and shall complete such additional work (including pass degree subjects) as the Head of the appropriate program may prescribe.
3. THESIS
The subject of any thesis shall be approved by the relevant Head of program and the thesis shall usually be presented before 30 November in the candidate‘s final year of study, unless otherwise determined by the Head of School.
4.1 DEGREE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS THE HONOURS PROGRAM IN COMMERCE
A candidate for the degree shall:

4.1.1 complete the specified program of study for the Pass degree to obtain a minimum of 72 credit points; and
-
4.1.2 obtain a minimum of 24 credit points of subjects specified in the program of study for the Honours degree.
4.2 The degree with Honours may be taken in the fields of Accounting, Finance or Economics.
5.1 THE HONOURS PROGRAMS IN BUSINESS SPECIALISING IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, MANAGEMENT, MARKETING, OR TOURISM
A candidate for the degree shall:

5.1.1 complete the specified program of study for the pass degree to obtain a minimum of 72 credit points; and
-
5.1.2 obtain a minimum of 24 credit points of subjects specified in the program of study for the Honours degree.
6. PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Programs of study for these degrees are available from the School of Business.
DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN THE CREATIVE ARTS
1.1 APPLICATION OF REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Student Handbook and specific degree or certificate Award Requirements.
1.2 In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, where appropriate in consultation with the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements of or prescription by the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and specific degree, diploma or certificate Award Requirements. Any major dispensation of the requirements should be reported to the faculty.
1.3 The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, where appropriate in consultation with the appropriate Head of School, may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated credit points of study for an Award offered in the faculty.
2. ENROLMENT IN AWARDS
A person who holds an award listed in General Requirements 1.1 and 1.2 may not be a candidate for that award in the same discipline.
3. COHERENCE OF DEGREE STRUCTURE
The faculty must be satisfied that the completed Award constitutes a coherent whole.
4. SAVING CLAUSE
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or suspend any condition of or prescription by these Requirements. Any such action by the faculty shall be recorded for the purposes of an annual review.

2.1 MAJORS
To complete a major students must successfully undertake the course of study shown in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors for the Bachelor of Business.
2.2 The major(s) are to be included on the testamur.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is three years full-time study or six years part-time.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is six years full-time study or 12 years part-time study.
4. SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting the subjects for enrolment in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS-BACHELOR OF COMMERCE
1. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE
A candidate for the degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 credit points. This shall include the specified core subjects and elective subjects.
2.1 MAJORS
In the Bachelor of Business component of the joint degree a candidate may select one of the majors offered within the Bachelor of Business.
2.2 In the Bachelor of Commerce component of the joint degree the Accounting major is a compulsory requirement. Students may also select any other Bachelor of Commerce major offered within the Bachelor of Commerce.
2.3 To complete a major students must successfully undertake the course of study shown in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
2.4 The major(s) are to be included on the testamur.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the course is four years full-time study or eight years part-time.
3.2 The maximum time for completion is 10 years.
3.3 The maximum amount of time a student can take as leave of absence from the course is two years.
3.4 A full-time study load will be 96 credit points over a 48 month period.
4. PROGRESSION
In selecting the subjects for which a candidate seeks to enrol in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the awards of the faculty may apply to obtain advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by the faculty. This must be in accordance with the published faculty policy statement on credit transfer and any associated guidelines.
5.2 Advanced standing for previous study granted towards the Bachelor of Business- Bachelor of Commerce may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
6. CANCELLATION OF CREDIT
Unless the faculty otherwise determines, advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 10 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course.
7. SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION FOR FINAL SUBJECT TOWARDS THE DEGREE
A candidate who has failed the final subject towards the joint degree and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a suplementary examination in that subject.
8. ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEGREE
The joint degree shall be administered by the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS-BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 credit points.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will normally be required for satisfactory completion of the degree; any variations from the normal require approval of the relevant Associate Dean/Faculty Registrar.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is four years full-time study or eight years part-time.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is eight years full-time study or 12 years part-time study.
4.1 SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting subjects for enrolment in any year on-campus candidates shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4.2 Business subjects comprise all subjects in Business, Commerce, Economics, Management and Tourism. Information Technology subjects comprise all subjects in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Business Information Systems and Mathematics.
4.3 The distribution of the credit points shall meet the minimal requirements set out in the Schedule in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Information Technology may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. Such advanced standing will be granted in terms of each faculty’s “Rules for Credit to the Bachelor Degrees” and any associated guidelines.
5.2 Advanced standing for prior study granted towards the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Information Technology may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
6. ADMINISTRATION OF THE JOINT DEGREE
The joint degree shall be administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellors of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology.

4.2 A candidate who cannot take one of the compulsory subjects, or for whom a special case can be made, may be permitted to take an extra elective in place of one compulsory subject.
4.3 Students are advised to limit non-progressing level 1 subjects to a maximum of 3 credit points per teaching period.

Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Journalism may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. 1.1 AWARD REQUIREMENTS
Honours in the joint degree may be completed as:
BBus(Hons)-LLB(Hons); or BBus(Hons)-LLB; or BBus-LLB(Hons) depending on the requirements of individual candidates.
1.2 A candidate for the Honours degree shall normally pursue studies as follows:

BBus(Hons)-LLB(Hons) — six years to obtain 144 credit points;
-
BBus(Hons)-LLB — six years to obtain 144 credit points;
-
BBus-LLB(Hons) — five years to obtain 120 credit points.
1.3 Candidates undertaking honours shall complete the requirements of the joint pass degree followed by the requirements of the normal honours year in either or both components of the joint degree depending on the degree in which the candidate enrols.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS-BACHELOR OF PSYCHOLOGY

1. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 120 credit points.
2. SUBJECTS
Subjects as outlined in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors will be required for satisfactory completion of the degree.
3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is five years full-time study.
3.2 The normal maximum time for completion is seven years full-time study.
3.3 Part-time candidates, or those who are unable to complete the course of study within seven years, shall consult with the relevant Heads of School to determine the time within which the requirements for the degree must be completed.
4. SPECIAL NOTES/REQUIREMENTS
In selecting subjects for enrolment in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Business - Bachelor of Psychology may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. 1.1 REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE
Honours in the joint degree may be completed as:
BBus(Hons)-BPsych(Hons); BBus(Hons)-BPsych; BBus-BPsych(Hons) depending on the requirements of individual candidates.
1.2 A candidate for the Honours degree shall normally pursue studies as follows:

BBus(Hons)-BPsych(Hons) — six years to obtain 144 credit points;

BBus(Hons)-BPsych — one additional year to obtain 24 credit points;

BBus-BPsych(Hons) — five years to obtain 120 credit points.
1.3 Candidates undertaking honours shall complete the requirements of the joint pass degree followed by the normal honours requirements in either or both components of the joint degree depending on the degree in which the candidate enrols.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS-BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT

1. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE
A candidate for the degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 96 credit points. This shall include the specified core subjects and elective subjects.
2.1 MAJORS
A candidate may select one of the following majors offered within the Bachelor of Business:

2.2 To complete a major students must successfully undertake the course of study shown under the Undergraduate Courses and Majors for the Bachelor of Business.

3.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal time for completion of the course is four years full-time study or eight years part-time.
3.2 The maximum time for completion is eight years for full-time students and 12 years for part-time students.
3.3 The maximum amount of time a student can take as leave of absence from the course is two years.
3.4 A full-time study load will be 96 credit points over a 48 month period.
4. PROGRESSION
In selecting the subjects for which a candidate seeks to enrol in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5.1 CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for the awards of the faculty may apply to obtain advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by the faculty. This must be in accordance with the published faculty policy statement on credit transfer and any associated guidelines.
5.2 Advanced standing for previous study granted towards the Bachelor of Business- Bachelor of Tourism Management may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous 10 years.
6. CANCELLATION OF CREDIT
Unless the faculty otherwise determines, advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 10 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course.
7. SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION FOR FINAL SUBJECT TOWARDS THE DEGREE
A candidate who has failed the final subject towards the joint degree and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a suplementary examination in that subject.
8. ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEGREE
The joint degree shall be administered by the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE

5.2 Commerce subjects comprise all subjects with a subject prefix of BU, CO, EC and MG. Information Technology subjects comprise all subjects with a subject prefix of CC, CP and MA.
5.3 The distribution of the credit points shall meet the minimal requirements set out in the Schedule in the Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

Candidates for the award of the Bachelor of Commerce - Bachelor of Information Technology may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study upon conditions determined by each faculty. BACHELOR OF COMMUNICATION DESIGN WITH HONOURS
1. ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A person who has qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design (the pass degree) may enrol for the Honours degree in either Research or Practice if that person has:

1.1 for Research, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a research-based and practice-based communication design subject specified by the Head of the School; or
-
1.2 for Practice, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a practice-based communication design subject and the grade of Credit or better in a research-based communication design subject specified by the Head of the School; and
-
1.3 has obtained the approval of the Head of the School.
2. A person who holds a degree of this or another University deemed by the faculty to be equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design may be permitted to enrol for the Honours degree where the Head of the School is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature and that the person has met the equivalent of the requirements specified in 1.1 or 1.2 above.
3. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study. The maximum period is two years of full-time study and four years of part-time study.
4. The program for either Research or Practice shall total 24 credit points and be as shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5. EXAMINATION
Except with the approval of the faculty a candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination.

6.2 A candidate who is granted the grade of Pass Conceded in a subject shall, for the purposes of Requirement 1, be deemed to have passed the subject and shall be credited with the appropriate credit points but may not enrol for a more advanced subject in any discipline requiring the first as a prerequisite except with the approval of the relevant Associate Dean/Faculty Registrar.
6.3 The number of credit points that may be credited at Pass Conceded level shall not exceed 12 for the Bachelor of Creative Arts.
6.4 A candidate awarded the grade of Pass Conceded may on publication of the examination results apply to the relevant Head of School for permission to attempt to convert that grade to a Pass grade by undertaking relevant assessment tasks.

1.1 AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 72 credit points. This shall include the specified core subjects, a creative arts major, a creative arts minor and elective subjects.
1.2 Studies are available in a number of discipline areas and candidates must choose one of the Creative Arts discipline majors outlined in the relevant schedule shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
2.1 PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is two years full-time study or four years part-time for those students who have already completed a relevant TAFE diploma.
2.2 The normal minimum time for completion of the degree for students who have not yet completed a relevant TAFE diploma will depend on the length of the candidature at TAFE. The normal minimum full-time equivalent study time is three years and maximum 4.5 years, with two of these equivalent full-time years spent at JCU.
2.3 The normal maximum time for completion is 10 years full-time study.
2.4 The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is three years full-time study or six years part-time for those students completing the Theatre major at JCUCairns.
2.5 Concurrent enrolment at JCU and TAFE is not permitted under any circumstances.

Applicants must have completed the requirements for a pass degree with a similar amount of economics to the pass degree at James Cook University, at this university or at another Australian or overseas university. Applicants will be required to have a minimum average grade of Credit in the pass degree subjects relevant to their honours degree.
3. In special cases students may be permitted to enrol part-time in economics honours.

A candidate for the pass degree in Law shall follow a course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 96 credit points. The time for completion of the degree is four years full-time.
1.2 Candidates enrolling in Law who have completed a bachelor degree at this or another University in any other field of study (graduate candidates) shall follow a course of study as specified under the heading Graduate Entry Program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 72 credit points. The time for completion of the degree is three years of full-time study.
2. LIMITATION OF ENROLMENT
In selecting the subjects for which a candidate seeks to enrol in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the program.
3. SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION
A candidate who has failed the final subject towards the degree or towards admission as a barrister or solicitor and who gained 40 per cent or more of the marks for that subject, may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject.
4. BACHELOR OF LAWS WITH HONOURS
A candidate for the degree with honours (a) shall fulfil the requirements for the pass degree at such a standard as the faculty may from time to time determine; and (b) shall be required to enrol in subjects specified for Honours as shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors. BACHELOR OF MUSIC WITH HONOURS
1. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF DEGREE COURSE
To qualify for the degree a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of 96 credit points in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the degree is four years of full-time study.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE DEGREE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Bachelor of Music with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3.1 ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Music may apply to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Music with Honours in either:

3.1.1 research, if that person has obtained at least a Distinction in a research-based music subject and a Distinction in a practice-based music subjects as specified by the Head of School;
-
3.1.2 practice, if that person has obtained at least a Distinction in a practice-based music subject and a Credit in a research-based music subject as specified by the Head of School.
3.2 The faculty may permit entry to the Honours degree by a person who holds the Bachelor of Music degree of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent degree, where it is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature for Honours. Candidates entering after graduation shall complete such conditions of Requirement 2 as the Head of School may specify.
3.3 The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the majors in Music with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
4. RESUBMISSION FOR FINAL HONOURS
A candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination in the same honours discipline, but may be permitted by the examiners to resubmit the honours thesis or comparable prescribed work.
5. AWARD OF THE DEGREE
In the award of Honours, consideration shall be given to the candidate’s record throughout the course.
BACHELOR OF NEW MEDIA ARTS

1. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE
A candidate for the degree shall follow an approved course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors to obtain a minimum of 72 credit points. This shall include the specified core subjects and elective subjects.
2. To complete the award of Bachelor of New Media Arts students must complete:

2.1 core studies comprising a prescribed series of eight subjects for a total of 24 credit points;

2.2 a major of eight subjects comprising a prescribed sequence of six credit points at level 1, six credit points at level 2 and 12 credit points at level 3;

2.3 a minor comprising the level 1 and level 2 subjects of a major to attain 12 credit points;
-
2.4 four elective subjects at undergraduate level to attain a minimum of 12 credit points. These subjects may be at any level consistent with the prerequisite requirements of the host school/award.

4. PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE/COMPLETION

5. PASS CONCEDED
Pass Conceded will not be accepted.
6. CREDIT FOR PRIOR STUDY
Candidates for this award may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study as per the published faculty policy statement on credit transfer. Advanced standing for previous study granted towards the Bachelor of New Media Arts may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous five years.
7. CANCELLATION OF CREDIT
Unless the faculty otherwise determines, advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled eight years after the date of examination upon which the advanced standing is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course.
8. ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEGREE
The degree shall be administered by the Fcaulty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
BACHELOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY WITH HONOURS
1. ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A person who has qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Photography (the pass degree) may enrol for the Honours degree in either Research or Practice if that person has:

1.1 for Research, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a research-based and practice-based photography subject specified by the Head of the School; or
-
1.2 for Practice, obtained in the pass degree the grade of Distinction or better in a practice-based photography subject and the grade of Credit or better in a research-based photography subject specified by the Head of the School; and
-
1.3 has obtained the approval of the Head of the School.
2. A person who holds a degree of this or another University deemed by the faculty to be equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Photography may be permitted to enrol for the Honours degree where the Head of the School is satisfied that the degree justifies candidature and that the person has met the equivalent of the requirements specified in 1.1 or 1.2 above.
3. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE
The normal minimum time for completion of the degree is one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study. The maximum period is two years of full-time study and four years of part-time study.
4. The program for either Research or Practice shall total 24 credit points and is shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
5. EXAMINATION
Except with the approval of the faculty a candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination.

1.1 AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 72 credit points. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in three years of full-time study.
1.2 The 72 credit points shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the specified program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT WITH HONOURS

1. ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEGREE
The degree shall be administered by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.
2. AWARD REQUIREMENTS
A candidate for a Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours shall:

2.1 complete the requirements of the pass degree, or an equivalent degree from another university;

2.2 include in the degree course the appropriate pass degree subjects, as set out in the program of study or equivalent subjects from another university;

2.3 include in the degree course 24 credit points of specified Honours subjects.
3.1 ENROLMENT
An application by a student to enrol for an Honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an Honours degree unless a minimum average grade of Credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which Honours are to be taken.
3.2 In the case of this Honours program, a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree within the faculty may apply to enrol for an Honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an Honours degree is sought. Such a candidate shall comply with the Requirements of the pass degree and shall complete such additional work (including pass degree subjects) as the Head of the appropriate program may prescribe.
4. THESIS
The subject of any thesis shall be approved by the Head of School and the thesis shall usually be presented before 30 November in the candidate’s final year of study, unless otherwise determined by the Head of School.
BACHELOR OF VISUAL ARTS WITH HONOURS
1. To qualify for the degree a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of 96 credit points in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the degree is four years of full-time study.
2. CONSTITUTION OF THE DEGREE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Visual Arts with Honours (Research), or Visual Arts with Honours (Professional Practice) shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
3.1 ENTRY TO HONOURS DEGREE COURSE
A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of School to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Research) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 credit points by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least Distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subjects of Visual Arts Practice and Art History and Theory; and that the grade of at least Credit has been obtained in the level 3 subject of Drawing.
3.2 A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of the School to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Professional Practice) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 credit points by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least Distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subject of Visual Arts Practice and that the grade of at least Credit has been obtained in the level 3 subjects of Drawing and Art History and Theory.
3.3 A person who holds the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent qualification, may be permitted to enrol in the Honours course where the Head of the School is satisfied that the qualification justifies candidature in one of the honours specialisations currently offered by Visual Arts. Requirements include a provision that candidates entering after graduation shall complete such specifications of Requirement 2 of the Bachelor of Visual Arts as the Head of School may specify.

A candidate who has succesfully completed the Diploma of Business may apply for advanced standing towards degree programs offered within the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts.

Candidates who articulate from the Diploma of Business into degree programs within the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts must relinquish their existing diploma prior to graduating with a degree from the faculty.

Candidates for this diploma may apply to obtain advanced standing for previous tertiary study up to a maximum of 12 credit points upon conditions determined by the faculty. Advanced standing for previous study towards the Diploma of Business may only be granted for study undertaken in the previous five years.

BACHELOR OF NEW MEDIA ARTS

New Media Arts is a global movement and one that crosses cultural as well as educational divisions. Much of contemporary arts practice is about exploring the interface and connections between ideas, culture and society. The course develops the knowledge and skills needed for contemporary creative arts practice where computer technologies are used.
Students shall complete the following:
Core subjects
All students undertake a sequence of 24 credit points of core subjects

Elective subjects
