Integrated Early Childhood Curriculum

20 hours lectures, 10 hours tutorials. Semester 1.

Available to students who have successfully completed ED3193 or ED3093 and are concurrently enrolled in ED4498 or ED4499.

This subject takes as its particular focus the construction of integrated early childhood curriculum through links with theory and the EC educator’s skills in critically reflective practice. Students will be engaged in the building, analysis and critique of models of integration in early childhood curriculum and the consideration of issues that impact on curriculum delivery in the classroom context. Throughout subject activities, students will be expected to draw extensively upon school and/or centre based professional experiences and to explore the dialectic relationship between theory and practice.

  1. extend skills and understandings of critically reflective practice;
  2. build, analyse and critique models of integration in EC curriculum;
  3. continue to explore the dialectic relationship between theory and practice in EC curriculum.

Individual assessment/s (70%); collaborative group assessment (30%)

Cairns

Will be negotiated with the student cohort, but will center on completion of an integrated unit plan (55%); a final semester examination (45%).
