A recurring theme in this subject is that decision-making is at the core of a teachers work and that effective teachers need to be both critically reflective and analytical of the bases that inform their decisons. This subject includes an analysis of embodied subjectivities, critical incidents, classroom observations and data collected as well as a critique of personal teaching in micro situations, and teaching and management strategies that enhance learning outcomes for students. The framework is one that develops the skills of collaborative and critical friendship within a community of inquiry.
Learning Objectives:
- further develop skills of critical reflection and decision making as students inquire into teaching learning processes;
- develop the skill and attitudes to engage with colleagues in a community of inquiry;
- present and critique personal teaching episodes as part of microteaching;
- examine teaching and management incidents applicable to primary/ECE classrooms and reconstruct these from multiple perspectives;
- collaborate with peers as critical friends as part of establishing a commitment to career long analysis of teaching and learning.
Assessment by micro-teaching critique (40%); portfolio (50%); tutorial/workshop participation (10%). RATEP assessment portfolio (50%); teaching strategy plan and critique (50%).
