Field Biology and Animal Adaptation

Prerequisites: BS2001 ZL1001

26 lectures, 5 tutorials, 30 hours practicals, 9 hours field work. Second semester.

The subject will examine the features of animals that influence fitness, e.g., those allowing them to maintain homeostasis, escape predators, find food and attract mates, and determine the influence of the environment on them.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand a range of adaptations of organisms and how these are shaped by the environments they are found in;
  2. develop skills in field observation and data collection;
  3. develop skills in computer-assisted manipulation and analysis of data.

Assessment by final examination (50%); field notebook (20%); practicals (30%).
