Analysis of Practice

Prerequisites: Distinction level in VA3031, VA3032 and credit level in VA3131, VA3230
Inadmissable Subject Combination: VA4001 VA4011 VA4021

Contact hours as negotiated with the Head of College through the Supervisor. Full year.

Available, at the discretion of the Head of College, to all students with a BVA or equivalent qualification undertaking the BVA Honours (Practice) degree.

Staff: Head, College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

Students will undertake a number of tasks relating to the analysis of creating practice, process and product.

Learning Objectives:

  1. become competent in a range of research techniques;
  2. develop a critical appraisal and evaluation of current literature in the visual arts;
  3. become familiar with advanced method and theory within the student’s field of specialisation;
  4. further the student’s abilities in working as an independent researcher and artist by following an individual program or research.

Assessment by presentation of a thesis not normally exceeding 5,000 words, text, visually documented and having a supportive relationship to the specialisation.
