91 hours practicals, 39 hours workshops/independent project work. First semester.

Students will further develop their conceptual skills and personal approach to subject and medium in one of the areas of specialisation chosen in level 2. Emphasis will be on personal direction through a number of set projects as well as individual work proposals outlining aims, method of research and execution, including safe working practices.
Student will participate in regular class discussions and group critiques of practical work.
Learning Objectives:
- to explore specific issues in a personal manner and to commence working with a personal vision;
- to sharpen specialised skills in relation to personal direction;
- to develop strategies for creative and personalised decision-making;
- to continue to demonstrate an understanding of safe work practices.
Assessment by set project (10%); practical proposal work (80%); research journal/visual diary (10%). An attendance record of 80% must be met unless approved in writing by the subject coordinator.
