Visual Arts Studies 2B

This subject follows on from VA2018 and furthers the development of students’ knowledge of art history and critical appraisal skills through historical research, skills based visual studies and creative artwork. Students will acquire an understanding of the characteristics and functions of a range of media, an understanding of design fundamentals relative to the media and technical skills. This will be accomplished through a body of visual studies, an artwork in each of the media and a research workbook.

Learning Objectives:

  1. further develop practical skills in a range of media by exploring their characteristics and functions and the design fundamentals relative to them;
  2. further develop a critical appreciation of the visual arts and an awareness of their social, cultural and historical contexts.

Assessment by written assignments; workbook; artworks; workshop participation.
