Visual Arts Studies 2A

13 lectures, 39 hours workshops. First semester.

This subject is designed to develop students’ knowledge of art history and practice and critical appraisal skills. This is to be achieved through historical research, skills-based visual studies and creative artwork. It further develops knowledge and skills gained in first year. This will be accomplished through a body of visual studies, an artwork in each of the media and a research workbook.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop practical skills in a range of media by exploring their characteristics and functions and the design fundamentals relative to them;
  2. develop a critical appreciation of the visual arts and an awareness of their social, cultural and historical contexts.

Assessment by written assignments; workbook; artworks; workshop participation.
