This subject takes the form of a small research thesis presented in the format required of a publishable journal article. It should be an empirical study, supervised by a staff member, relating to an area of health or mental health. It may take the form of an experiment, a survey of some kind, an evaluation of the efficacy of an applied program, or a clinical within-subject (N=1) study.
Learning Objectives:
- to reinforce the research orientation to applied practice;
- the development of research skills suitable for applied projects;
- knowledge of the particular issues, including ethical concerns, associated with applied research;
- the development of responsibility, independence and professionalism in undertaking an extended applied project.
The dissertation will be assessed on the standard of the written report by two examiners, one of whom should be external to the University (100%).
