Photographic Industry Practice

108 hours in an approved industry placement, two hours of class seminar presentations held weekly during the final seven weeks of second semester. Full year. The industry placement may be undertaken weekly or in block mode during vacation periods.

Available to Bachelor of Photography students.

Through work experience in the photographic industry, students will become aware of contemporary industry practices and procedures. Students will undertake a minimum of 108 hours of industry placement in one or more areas of the photographic industry. This placement is subject to lecturer approval.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain an understanding of the variety of employment opportunities in the photographic industry;
  2. develop an in-depth understanding of the operation of one or more facets of the photographic industry;
  3. improve technical photographic knowledge through a period of exposure to industry practitioners;
  4. improve interpersonal skills through workplace contact with both professional photographers and their clientele.

Assessment by 20 minute seminar presentation on industry placement (50%); individual research journal (50%). Late submission of assessment items will attract penalties unless an extension has been granted in writing by the lecturer and work submitted by students with an attendance rate of less than 80% may not be eligible for assessment without prior written approval from the lecturer.
