Physics for Engineers

Prerequisites: CL1010 (MA1002 or MA1003)
Inadmissable Subject Combination: PH2002 PH2004

39 lectures, 13 practice classes, 24 hours practicals. Second semester.

Available to level 2 engineering students with the appropriate physics background.

This subject introduces new concepts which will benefit students in the later years of their electrical engineering course. Electricity and Magnetism, Optics.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand a selection of theoretical developments in the topics studied;
  2. be able to solve practical problems associated with the theoretical background;
  3. be competent with experimental and empirical work and write reports;
  4. appreciate the physical basis for the corresponding engineering curriculum.

Assessment by end of semester examination; weekly tutorial assignments; practical work.
