Integrated Nursing B

Prerequisites: NS2011 NS2213 PP2231

30 lectures, 10 tutorials, 30 hours practicals, 80 hours clinical placement. Second semester.

Available only to level 3 nursing science students.

This subject extends the process and knowledge begun in the previous nursing practice subjects by continuing to foster the student’s ability to exercise clinical judgement. Emphasis is placed on advanced assessment and implementation skills and techniques as the students learn to deal with patients who have increasingly complex health problems. Clinical experience will occur in specialist contexts of nursing practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. refine assessment and synthesis skills in order to provide optimum care for a patient in a complex situation;
  2. demonstrate advanced clinical skills and techniques for caring for a patient with a complex illness;
  3. discuss philosophical, ethical and legal issues in order to clarify personal values and develop a professional attitude to such issues as termination of life support, euthanasia, organ transplant;
  4. integrate principles of management and time management strategies into clinical situations.

On-course assessment (40%); examination (60%).
