Research Thesis

Prerequisites: Distinction level in research-based and practice-based music subject and permission of Head of College
Inadmissable Subject Combination: MU4012 MU4022

Contact hours as negotiated with the Head of College through the supervisor. Full year.

Available, at the discretion of the Head of College, to all students with a Bachelor of Music or equivalent qualification undertaking the Bachelor of Music Honours (Research) degree.

Staff:

Head, College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

Students will write a thesis of at least 10,000 words demonstrating mastery of methodology and a research area appropriate to honours level.

Learning Objectives:

  1. research technical and aesthetic aspects of performance/composition;
  2. develop critical appraisal and evaluation of current research in music;
  3. become competent in a range of relevant research techniques;
  4. further abilities as an independent researcher and musician by following an individual program of research.

Assessment by presentation of thesis having a supportive relationship to the performance (100%).
