Music Ensemble 3

52 hours practicals/workshops. Full year.

Available to all students except BMus students.

This subject will involve active performance in an approved large ensemble such as the JCU Choir, Concert Band or Stage Band. Students will develop advanced skills on an instrument or in voice and enhance their knowledge of style and repertoire. They will take part in regular rehearsals and workshops and participate in performances both on the university campus and in the wider community and develop their knowledge of performance related issues through the recording of a practice journal.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop skills in ensemble playing and performance;
  2. attain knowledge of group dynamics and skills in teamwork;
  3. continue musical development in an ensemble context;
  4. develop a journal outlining performance issues as related to ensemble activities;
  5. develop seminar presentation skills related to musical performance.

Assessment by attendance, interaction and involvement at rehearsals, workshops and concerts (30%); practice journal (40%); between rehearsals and performances work and development, mental and physical preparation (15%); 10-minute seminar presentation outlining knowledge of ensemble rehearsal and performance techniques and related issues (15%).
