Advanced Mechanical Engineering Design

Prerequisites: CS3008 ME3525

39 lectures, 39 hours workshops. Second semester.

Available to level 4 mechanical engineering students.

Application of modelling and simulation to the design of components and systems. Use of computational mechanics and finite element analysis in design. Major design project involving a complex engineering system or component from any field of mechanical engineering.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop student skills in conducting major projects with minimal supervision;
  2. to develop in students advanced skills at analysing, designing and/or optimising various mechanical systems.

Assessment by coursework. Mastery of some components of this subject may be required before a candidate passes the subject.
