Proof formalism, proof by induction; ordinary differential equations, series solutions, special functions, Sturm-Liouville theory; curvilinear coordinates, general surface integrals; sequences and series, formal definition of a limit; transform methods for partial differential equations; introduction to elasticity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. master fundamental methods for the solution of a variety of mathematical problems from Science and Engineering.

Assessment by coursework (30%); three-hour examination (70%).
