This subject will present an overview of post-contact Australian history with particular reference to race relations. It will be taught by a combination of lectures, videos and student discussion based on historical documents.

Learning Objectives:

  1. acquire an overview of the history of Australia;
  2. gain an understanding of the use of primary source documents in historical writing;
  3. improve skills in developing and arguing an historical thesis.

Assessment by tutorial presentations (40%); essay (30%); examination (30%).
