This subject presents an overview of post-contact Australian history with particular reference to race relations. It will be taught by a combination of lectures, videos and student discussion based on historical documents.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to acquire an overview of the history of Australia;
  2. to gain an understanding of the use of primary source documents in historical writing;
  3. to improve skills in developing and arguing an historical thesis.

Assessment by essay (30%); tutorials (40%); examination (30%).
