Australia: A Thematic History 1

This subject studies the way in which Australia has been shaped by its past. Students are introduced to Australian historiography and selected historical themes: the peopling of Australia, the development of national identity and the evolution of Australia’s political culture and structures.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to be acquainted with the relevant debates occurring within the discipline;
  2. to be able to evaluate these critically;
  3. to have developed research skills;
  4. to be able to marshall ideas in a logical and coherent manner;
  5. to be able to source information using appropriate methods.

Assessment by four 1,000 word module assignments (60%); two-hour examination (40%).
