Introduction to Environmental Science

An overview of current global and regional environmental problems; an examination of the interaction between natural processes and the human activities which circumscribe such issues and which constrain their amelioration; a review of current areas of knowledge and ignorance concerning environmental processes. Particular attention will be paid to tropical examples.
Learning Objectives:
- to promote an understanding of the causes and complexity of major global and regional environmental problems;
- to provide practice in group problem solving in an environmental context;
- to integrate knowledge and values within the context of environmental issues;
- to develop oral and written communication skills.
Assessment by examination (50%); tutorials, lecture, tests (50%).
