A study of representative Australian works of the post-Second World War period.
Learning Objectives:
- broaden and intensify the literary-critical skills and understanding attained by students at earlier levels, particularly where essay-writing and extra-literary issues are concerned;
- acquire a detailed knowledge of each of the texts set for study;
- develop an understanding of the cultural, social and literary milieu in which the texts originated;
- acquire some knowledge of the history of texts critical reception and the factors determining this;
- develop research skills, to use the library resources and meet the editorial conventions of the discipline.
Assessment by one 1,500 word essay (15%); one 3,000 word essay (25%); weekly tutorial participation (20%); one three-hour examination (40%). This subject is taught in conjunction with EL2035. Students enrolled in EL3035 will have more extensive assessment at a higher level.
