Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Schools

Available to level 4 BEd students and BEd (Professional Development) students.

This subject is an integrated study organised round the choices facing practitioners as policy developers. It examines models of development and evaluation of curricula through a curriculum development activity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to give students experience in viewing curriculum through the theoretical constructs available;
  2. to provide students with a number of curriculum development and evaluation techniques appropriate to classroom needs;
  3. to help students to learn to work on curriculum issues cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues.

Assessment by an essay of 1,000 words that is a critical analysis of current curriculum development proposals (40%); a curriculum development task related to current developments (60%).
