The focus of the subject will be the exploration and critique of beliefs, images and metaphors of practice in ECE; curriculum frameworks, guidelines, and programs in ECE; planning models and practices in ECE; and special topics of particular professional and personal significance in ECE. In addition, students should expect to continue developing the range of professional skills identified as beginning teacher competencies; and personal expertise in the use of collaborative models of inquiry and critically reflective practice.
The subject will involve a range of adult learning modes and contexts, including traditional face-to-face lectures and tutorials; email tutorials and reflections; community and field-based experiences; and group and independent research activity.
Learning Objectives:
- critically examine structures and practices within early childhood education, including play as a context for learning and the use of observational and reflective techniques;
- develop knowledge, understandings and strategies relevant to the development of inclusive curriculum contexts for young children;
- develop understanding of and commitment to principles of collaborative partnerships, continuing professional development and advocacy.
Assessment by one negotiated assignment (70%); one collaborative student presentation (30%).
