Design and Construction 2

Prerequisites: CS2001 CS2003 CS2005

13 lectures, 65 hours practicals, field visits. Second semester.

Available to civil engineering and engineering technology students.

Civil engineering design of steel and concrete structures. Application of Australian Codes of Practice. In this subject, the designs will be oriented to simple structures and more teacher directed than will be the case in Design and Construction III, which will deal with overall structures and be more open-ended and less teacher directed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. apply skills learned in related subjects of the course to the design of structural elements in steel and concrete;
  2. communicate design recommendations by suitably detailed design sketches.

Assessment by on-course assessment of design assignments (70%); a three-hour examination (30%).
