Current Information Technology for Business

To examine in detail the hardware and software of business computer systems including: data representation, computer architecture, peripheral devices, systems software, program structure, semantics and syntax of programming languages.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe how data is stored and manipulated in a computer;
  2. describe how a basic computer works, the basic and current computer architecture;
  3. describe, compare and contrast computer peripheral devices;
  4. describe the basic and current functions of an operating system;
  5. describe the structure of a computer program and the general semantics and syntax of programming languages;
  6. write an IT specification for system acquisition and testing, from an existing analysis of an Information System.

Assessment by class test/s (10%); assignment/s (40%); final examination (50%).
