Aquaculture: Literature Review and Seminar

Prerequisites: Satisfactory fulfilment of requirements for entry into Aquaculture Honours program
Inadmissable Subject Combination: AQ5011 AQ5012

Students will be expected to spend one quarter of their total workload, equivalent to 12 hours per week, in first semester, in preparing for and writing their literature review, and presenting their seminar. First semester. AQ4021 is a required corequisite subject.

Available to students who have successfully fulfilled requirements for entry into the Aquaculture Honours program.

Review of the literature pertinent to the field of the approved Honours research project (AQ4021), including a critical appraisal of the objectives, methodologies, and results of previous research relating to the topic; and a seminar presenting the aims, plan, timetable, budget, and justification for the Honours research project.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to apply experience and skills gained during undergraduate years for literature searches in an effective way, including use of library aids and modern technology;
  2. to acquire competence in evaluating contributions, of both a general and specific nature, to the literature in a prescribed field;
  3. to develop the ability to coherently synthesise, concisely review and critically discuss material from the scientific literature;
  4. to become meticulous in writing, especially with regard to factual accuracy and presentation of citations, references, bibliographics, etc.

Assessment by submitted literature review (75%); presented seminar (25%).
