Field Education Project

Townsville, Cairns

Prerequisites: SS2004 (WS2011 or WS2019)

20 days field work; 4 hours preparation; 10 hours professional supervision per student group; 6 hours integration at end of project. Second semester.

Staff: Ms R Bone.

Students will engage in a community project, in groups, concerned with identifying social needs, linking needs with resources and program development, implementation and/or evaluation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide the opportunity for students to practice and demonstrate individual contribution to group processes and tasks;
  2. to be able to identify and discuss use of basic communication skills in relation to the project;
  3. to apply basic research methodologies to a field project
  4. to develop skills in time and resource management;
  5. to develop skills in negotiation;
  6. to develop a beginning understanding of the way in which welfare/community organisations operate.

Assessment by statement of learning, group presentation and written report from field educator (100%).

All pieces of assessment are regarded as of equal importance. All pieces of assessment must be completed at a satisfactory standard in order to gain an overall satisfactory grading.
