This subject examines the nature of research design and methods plus advanced statistical analysis relevant to the tourism industry. A major goal of the subject is to familiarise students with the width and depth of research design relevant to the tourism industry and to introduce students to advanced statistical analyses. Both lecture and practical sessions introduce students to report writing in conjunction with the quantitative and qualitative methods demanded by tourism research.
Learning Objectives:
- students cover all aspects of research design and incorporate these research skills in conjunction with statistical and database skills into designing a research project;
- students will gain sufficient experience in research design, computer skills and advanced statistical knowledge to allow them to participate in third research projects in tourism electives;
- students will gain sufficient experience in research design, computer skills and statistical knowledge to give them a basis on which to complete an honours thesis; to operationalise the thesis; collect, collate, analyse data; present the results at the student conference.
