120 hours practicals. First semester.

Available to BT students only.

Students will undertake modules in either Acting or Production.

Acting

Voice — this module will focus on the development of vocal skills necessary for performance. The actor’s ability to shape and communicate meaning is strengthened and extended in response to demands of text in class and performance.

Movement and related theatre skills — students undertake two modules which may include makeup, fencing, ballroom dancing, combat fighting, tap dancing, jazz dancing, singing.

Production

Students undertake secondment with professional companies or venues. Length and appropriateness to be negotiated with course coordinator.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop models for learning which mirror professional practice in order that students may prepare for entry into the profession or for further study in the discipline.

Assessment by:

Acting

Voice: voice journal (10%), vocal analysis essay (15%) performance (25%); Movement: process work (25%); performance project (25%).

Production

Written report (3,000 words) (60%); supervisor’s report (40%).
