Fundamentals of Directing

Townsville

Prerequisites: TH1102 TH2101 or equivalent

78 hours workshops. First semester.

This subject provides the students with a fundamental understanding of the process of directing. The students will participate in all the steps of the director’s process: the process of choosing a play; the development of a concept; casting; choice of the design, costumes, music and lighting in relation to a concept; work with the actors; creation of atmosphere and development of mise en scene; tempo-rhythm.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ a mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary for theatre skills in their profession.

Assessment by preliminary Director’s plan (20%); explication (30%); 10-15 minutes drama piece directed by a student (50%).
