Available to level 3 sport and exercise science, physical education and other students.

The influence of exercise and sport on the cardio-vascular system. Central nervous system, endocrine and immunoactivity responses to exercise. The growing athlete; musculo-skeletal growth and related risk factors. The ageing athlete; osteoarthritis, structural and physiological changes. The female athlete; fertility, eating disorders and osteoporosis.
Learning Objectives:
- to understand the principles leading to health benefits of exercise in the broad community;
- to be able to evaluate, formulate and solve problems in this area.
Assessment by a three-hour end of semester examination (70%); on-course tutorial assignments (15%); practical (15%).
