Introduction to Exercise Biology

Available to students in Bachelor of Science/Biomedical Science/Sport and Exercise Science.

Physiology and metabolic adaptation to exercise: a comparative synthesis; structural and functional organisation of skeletal muscle; respiratory physiology of exercise; cardiovascular physiology of exercise; exercise metabolism; physiology and biochemistry of fatigue and recovery; pharmacology of exercise; foods, nutrition and exercise performance and recovery; gender, race and age differences in the physiological and biochemical response to exercise; exercise adaptations to high altitude; limitations to exercise and high humidity.

Assessment by a three-hour written examination (70%); practical assignments (30%).
