Practicum 2

Townsville

320 hours. First semester.

Available only to MPsych (Clinical&Health) students or with permission of the course coordinator.

Staff: Assoc. Professor A Ralph and other clinical staff.

This subject takes the form of an external practical placement in a health or mental health agency. Students will work for two days a week at the agency under supervision. The placement gives students the opportunity to work in different settings and to become familiar with the professional network within which psychologists operate. Attendance at clinic seminars will also be expected.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop clinical skills under supervision of an experienced practitioner;
  2. to act in a professional manner, meet the requirements of a work contract and associated responsibilities;
  3. to develop further independence and responsibility as a practising clinical and health psychologist;
  4. to gain understanding of the demands made by and the functioning of different agencies and the range of duties required of a practising psychologist, including non-clinical responsibilities.

Assessment by a pass/fail rating on performance in the practicum placement.
