Photographic Practice 1

Prerequisites: PT1610 or concurrent enrolment in PT1610

13 hours practicals, 26 hours workshops. First semester.

Available to Bachelor of Photography students. Students undertaking this subject must either have passed or have a concurrent enrolment in PT1610.

Students enrolling in this subject will explore the practical applications of 35mm photography with particular reference to the following areas: use and operation of camera equipment; the control of exposure through the operation of aperture and shutter; understanding and control of depth of field and movement; types and characteristics of photographic lenses.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop basic competence in the use of manual 35mm camera equipment;
  2. gain experience in the use of different types of film;
  3. acquire a basic understanding of the measurement and control of light.

Assessment by three practical assignments (75%); folio of photographs (25%). Late submission of assessment items will attract penalties unless an extension has been granted in writing by the lecturer and work submitted by students with an attendance rate of less than 80% may not be eligible for assessment without prior written approval from the lecturer.
