Occupational Therapy Applications

Available to level 2 Occupational Therapy students.

The subject develops theoretical frames of reference learnt in OT1001. Life and mobility skills for independent living in relation to self care, work and leisure are examined and experienced in relation to clinical and community care whether urban, rural or remote. Biopsychosocial theories and skills are developed and applied to medical and psychological problems throughout the lifespan. Experience with creative and adjunctive therapies is acquired. Tutorials are skill based.
Learning Objectives:
- demonstrate knowledge of the role of the Occupational Therapist as a beginning practitioner in clinical or community areas of Occupational Therapy;
- demonstrate competence in the use of assessment tools throughout the lifespan;
- integrate and apply concepts from behavioural sciences in Occupational Therapy for urban and rural communities;
- develop skills used in clinical decision making for planning Occupational Therapy intervention for individuals and groups;
- develop processes of clinical reasoning and reflective practice for incorporation into professional practice.
Assessment by standardised paediatric assessment (20%); home visit (10%); standardised upper limb assessment (10%); plan and run a community group session (20%); a client interview (10%); reflective learning diary (20%); tutorial attendance (10%).
