Tasks and Roles of Occupational Therapy

Available to level 1 Occupational Therapy students.
This subject will examine current philosophy and conceptual frameworks in Occupational Therapy practice. It introduces students to models of service delivery, current frameworks and the philosophies applicable to Occupational Therapy. Concepts of assessment, evaluation and treatment will be introduced. Tasks and roles of human occupation will be experienced and applied to a range of therapeutic activities throughout the lifespan.
Learning Objectives:
- identify the significant changes to health and society that influenced the development of occupational therapy;
- apply a range of models used in current practice;
- understand the therapeutic use of activity and apply the principles and process of activity and task analysis;
- recognise human occupation as a framework for occupational therapy practice and intervention;
- perform a range of occupational therapy skills including assessment, observation and group interaction.
Assessment by examination (40%); task and activity analysis (30%); assignment (30%).
